Catching Our Breath and Catching Up

I've started several posts and haven't finished them over the past few months. I'll admit, the brutal winter dragged us all down pretty hard, and it's been a struggle to recover. It's April, and just last week we still had several inches of snow hitting us. It's hard to keep going through that. With a lot of hard work, most of our animals made it though the winter unscathed. We only lost one chicken, and only had a touch of frostbite on one comb even though we refuse to use heat lamps in our barn. The goats fared well, but burned through hay and hot water like it was their job and they were all gunning for Employee of the Month. But this week, the snow is finally melting. My seedlings are finally sprouting with confidence that they will actually get planted this year. We've hatched out our first batch of baby chicks. Despite this winter's beat down, spring is finally here.We have big plans for this year's homesteading projects. Now that we have some experience under our belt and a better understanding of, well, everything, we're feeling confident about tackling things we couldn't manage before. I hope to be better about documenting our progress, whether it be failures or successes.
