2016 Kidding Season - #9 Equinox & #10 Jubilee

5/28/16As we near the end of spring kidding, I have to say we've been feeling pretty drained. It's been a big one for us, full of surprises, big lessons, and serious learning. We are exhausted.In the midst of all of the kidding season crazy, we are still working on getting our dairy licensed. Of course, that means I arranged a pre-inspection right smack dab in the middle of kids being due.I had taken the morning off to be able to assist W with the morning chores and make sure everything was tip-top for the inspector. I also wanted to be there to take notes, ask questions, etc. As W was in the middle of milking and I was scrambling to get things done, Equinox decided it was time to go into labor.Since Equinox was a fourth freshener this season, and she's a big hearty girl, we weren't anxious about her delivery at all. Thanks to the ease of her delivery, I was able to get a nice video of her first kid being born with a picture perfect presentation. A lovely little buckling.The second kid presented breech with both legs out. Since it was odious the sac was broken, I made sure that it came out quickly to prevent any fluid getting into the lungs. Another lovely buckling. As I was drying him off, I turned around and #3, a doeling, was already on the ground. Flawless! I was even able to get a shower in and a little more tidying up before the dairy inspector arrived.After the inspector left, I rushed off to get to work. I managed to finish off the day in fine form, and when my husband said the in-laws would be coming over for dinner, I didn't even skip a beat. As I left work and headed towards home, I got a text that Jubilee was going into labor.When I got home, Jubilee was just starting to progress, and I managed to change into my barn clothes and get out to observe the labor just in time. First baby out, a buckling, covered in spots, a big boy ready to hit the ground running. Shortly after, a smaller doeling. I was thrilled - this is our first breeding out of our buck Two Faced, and I was hoping for a doeling to retain so we see her develop.All kids wonderful. All moms fantastic. Now that's what I call a great barn day.
